HP2: The Human Potential Project

HP2'S APPROACH

It's a whole new world out there. No one will argue with that. And, it's changing faster and faster every day. Technology is moving at an unimaginable pace. Mergers and acquisitions change the face of industries with the stroke of a pen. Yesterday's competitor is today's supplier. Talent rules and knowledge is expanding and available exponentially. The economy now operates on a 24/7 worldwide basis. The internet has indeed changed everything and at the same time, nothing.

One fundamental of business hasn't changed. It always was and always will be your people that determine success or failure. You can get all the technology you can afford, but so can the competition. You can get the best strategic consultants and corporate coaching in the land, but so can the competition. You can have all of the latest and greatest there is, but you need Leaders who can:

•  See a competitive advantage.

•  Innovate new ways of doing business.

•  Create a coherent mission.

•  Mobilize action.

•  Manage the mood of the organization.

•  Generate accountability and commitment.

•  Produce value for your stakeholders.

You need Managers who can:

•  Focus on designing and completing projects.

•  Generate customer satisfaction.

•  Build people's careers.

•  Reduce cycle time.

•  Build trust and respect.

•  Invent new processes.

Without these leaders and managers, all the technology, consulting, corporate coaching, and analysis in the world won't help you.

It is a whole new world and in this new world the old ways of leading, managing, and learning won't produce the competence you need to ensure the future of your business. It is time for an entirely new approach, the HP2 approach. Our work has evolved over 25 years. Its philosophical roots tap into a series of solid traditions and practices.

Advanced Learning Theory

Our experience with athletes and the military, as well as a host of other contemporary authorities, has validated that while the mind understands, it is the body that learns. The body can only learn through practice. No amount of tips, techniques, checklists, motivation, or understanding will produce competence, but practice will. Thus, our work focuses on teaching a specific set of powerful practices.

Somatics

Somatics has ancient roots. The term comes from the Greek word for unified body. In current usage, the term refers to the unity of mind-body-spirit. Since it is the body that learns, our work has a very strong somatic component that weaves through all our practices. We don't just provide understanding, but work somatically to produce embodied new practices.

Linguistics

Everything we do occurs in language; it is the medium we exist in. Effectiveness in today's world requires competence in "linguistic moves." This body of work, developed by John Austin, John Searle, and Fernando Flores, has begun to move into the mainstream of business. When linguistic moves are combined with somatic practices, they become the foundation for new leadership and management practices.

Commitment-based Management

HP2 is on the leading edge here. Most current management practices are vestiges of WWII. While no one would use WWII era technology in any part of their business, many are content to manage with practices of that era. Commitment based management or promise-based management holds that work is as a series of nested commitments. Management is being able to coordinate a series of commitments rather than supervising activities to produce business results. This simple premise opens the door to an entire new world of business practices, systems, and processes.

HP2 has created a distinctly powerful body of work that teaches a new set of leadership and management practices that are tailored to the business world of today and tomorrow.
